MINNEAPOLIS — A young man from the Twin Cities area, who allegedly pledged allegiance to ISIS, was planning a mass casualty attack on the Mall of America, the U.S. Attorney s Office announced Wednesday. According to an affidavit submitted by the FBI, Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud, 18, intended to kill "30 to 60" people at the Bloomington mall on Oct. 24 during a "Hmong Arts Celebration." Mohamud was arrested on Tuesday, Oct. 6, in Richfield, at a location near his residence, on one count of obtaining a firearm to carry out an act of terrorism. Earlier Tuesday, Mohamud allegedly met with an undercover officer whom he believed was selling him weapons for the attack: an AK-47 assault rifle and 200 rounds of ammunition. "Today's charges demonstrate that the threat of terrorism in support of ISIS and other foreign terrorist organizations is active and continuing," Daniel Rosen, U.S. attorney for the District of Minnesota, said at a Wednesday news conference.
